Ontari’io,Beautiful Lake
01 / The work
The lake holds its form. Everything around it changes.
Across winter, spring, summer, and fall, the surrounding land shifts through colour and flicker. The lake remains the stable element: one continuous body held inside a changing field.
Ontari’io, Beautiful Lake is both a moving image and an act of record. The animation makes change visible. The mint gives the work a durable public inscription: its title, media, description, and renderer are fixed on-chain.
The blockchain is therefore not simply where the artwork is distributed. It is one of the materials from which the artwork is made.
The field changes. The water does not.
02 / The record
The inscription is part of the image.
Ontari’io is the Wendat-linked form carried into the name Ontario, commonly understood as “the lake is beautiful” or “the lake is big.” The title recognizes the history held within the lake’s present name.
Names hold memory. They can also become sites of pressure, revision, and power. This work records the historical depth carried by the lake’s name without binding it to a single political moment.
Once minted, the artwork’s permanent fields can be independently read from the blockchain. They do not depend on this webpage, a social platform, or a future editorial decision to remain legible.
